The heavyweight title fight headlining UFC 106; Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin, has be postponed due to illness.  Nov. 21 couldn’t come any sooner for Shane Carwin, as the undefeated fighter was set to take on heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, but due to a sudden illness, Lesnar was forced to withdraw from the fight.

Dana White told Yahoo! Sports on Monday that “He said he’s never been this sick in his life. He said it’s been going on for a long time and he just hasn’t been able to shake it.”  Lesnar’s co-manager, Brian Stegeman, said Lesnar was suffering upper respiratory issues, fever and extreme fatigue, symptoms typical to the H1N1 virus, also known as swine flu, but because Lesnar is beyond the stage at which he could be tested for the virus, they can not be positive if it is in fact the  H1N1 virus.

Carwin, via his Twitter feed, said the fight has been rescheduled for UFC 108 on Jan. 2, an event which will start off the new year will three great fights now that Lesnar vs. Carwin is on the main card.  As any young fighter can imagine, Carwin was very disappointed upon hearing about the postponement.  “My heart just sank…” Carwin told Yahoo! Sports after hearing the news about the fight being rescheduled.

The UFC announced that previously scheduled Forrest Griffin vs. Tito Ortiz fight would be moved into UFC 106’s main event slot.  Forrest Griffin wrote on his blog, “I have to say, I am feeling great and even more motivated than usual for this fight. I am looking forward to getting back in the Octagon.”  The long awaited rematch should be a good consolation prize for the sudden postponement of the Lesnar vs. Carwin heavyweight title bout.
