The Triumph United sponsorship camp has turned out yet another fighter worth watching. What is the hall mark of a great fighter though? Is it the ferociousness of their fights? Perhaps the tenacity exhibited in their training regimens? What of the fighters heart, their “kanjo”, their desire to fight and to never surrender? Yet, even more, what of the fighter who has combined all these traits? Can his destiny be anything other than greatness? If not, than pay attention to a hungry and driven young man named Jerron Peoples.
On February 21st, at the Gladiator Challenge, Jerron garnered another win in the cage by way of a 52 second TKO. Utilizing a perfectly timed flying knee Peoples introduced his opponent to the mat, only moments later to have the referee stop the bout to discover he had broken his opponents collar bone.
Fightpros: Jerron you took it to your opponent and gained an impressive victory at Gladiator Challenge. You are obviously have gained and are going to continue to gain fans with performances like that. So now, the MMA world is listening. What would you like to say to them?
Peoples: I want to tell the world to watch out for Jerron! You got the next world champion at 185 lbs! I’ve got the best training, the heart, and I’ve got the Lord as my biggest sponsor!
Fightpros: The Lord as your sponsor Hunh? Are you telling me that you are a Christian in the MMA world. Tell me, how does that work?
Peoples: With God I have superiority over everybody. There is no holding me back. I am humble when I say that. Its Him not me that makes me strong. My confidence level is off the hook. I am going to fight and win, and one day the championship will be mine.
Fightpros: What are you like outside of the cage, on your own time.
Peoples: I think you could say that I have a very charismatic, outgoing side to me. However, I am also humble about who I am. Energetic, optimistic, but I got strength and once I step into the ring I switch. I become “The One Man Riot” as people call me.
Fightpros: What does a riot look like?
Peoples: (Chuckling) Confusion man! Organized destruction and mayhem!
Fightpros: The 185lbs division is a very loaded one. What makes you different from all the other 185ers out there?
Peoples: My morality. My ethic. My work ethic. I want to fight. I want to eat. I want to stand up and swing at people. I want to give the crowd the fight they want to see. I want to give them the opportunity to see the fight they always dreamed of. I want to be the guy that gives it to them. I don’t want to edge out a win. I don’t want to win by points. I want to swing until the fight is over.
Fightpros: Tell me about your work ethic and your training
Peoples: Discipline. I am a traditionalist. I am more into the art rather than banging. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll bang with anyone, it’s that whole Riot of one. But, I want to be an artist with my style. We work the elbows and knees. We do a lot of shin conditioning. Crazy shin conditioning! Probably the only non traditional aspect of my training is I’m not a Buddhist (laughing).
Fightpros: Ok, Jerron. Like I asked at the beginning, the whole world is listening. All your current and future fans are out there hanging on your everyword. You’ve told them a little about yourself today, now leave them with something. Tell us what we should expect.
Peoples: To my fans It looks like I am fighting again for Gladiator challenge in April, so watch for that announcement. To everyone reading and hearing of me for the first time, know that I am humble and determined. I am hungry and I want to eat. I’m hungry and I want to fight. Hate me if you got to, but I appreciate all my fans. Watch for good things. Give me a chance and you won’t be disappointed.
It’s been said that a man of true conviction is hard to find. A man of conviction and action is even harder. Jerron is powered from on high by his faith, but he lets the rubber meet the road in the cage. Conviction, action, and his very own riot at his disposal. Watch this man deliver!
As always, what say you?
