Roy Nelson came in to the collective casual fans conscious with his appearance on TUF season 10. On that season he went through all of the opponents set against him including KIMBO Slice, a fight that is the 4th most watched MMA fight in the U.S. history. When he made it to the finals against Brendan Schaub I actually thought there was a good chance of him losing that one

Stefan Struve is currently in the shadow of his other 2 UFC class mates, Ironic since he is 6’11 and nicknamed the Skyscraper.  With a win over Roy Nelson at UFN 21 Florian Gomi that could change.

He has rebound after a 1st round TKO by Junior Dos Santos and has since gone on a 3 fight win streak. His most recent victory coming at UFC 107, where he battled Paul Buentello in for 3 rounds getting a majority decision win with scores of (29-28, 29-28, 28-28). In the UFC Heavyweight division right now a win could propel you very far. Saying that and doing that thoughare two different things.

I wrote about Dan Hardy’s heart last week. I was amazed to learn he went to China and trained with Shaolin monks. I talked about how this guy truly believes in himself and he won’t quit at all. Well UFC 111 happened last night. I was right, Hardy won’t quit.

After watching another fine episode of Survivor and playing some Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 I decided to go to bed. I woke up this morning with the dog on my face….why?  I do not know, but apparently it looked like a good spot.  I turn on my computer, log on to my Twitter and BOOM! I see Jon Fitch vs. Thiago Alves is off due to Alves failing a pre-fight CAT scan.  There was an irregularity in the scan which prompted Alves to be pulled from the card.

So that was a shock and then it was reported that Fitch was removed from the card which makes sense the fight is in two days time.

Then MMAJunkie.com reported that Ben Saunders requested to fight Jon Fitch, seeing a potentially massive opportunity to fight Fitch, whom is considered widely as the #2 Welterweight fighter in the world. So now we will have Ben Saunders Jon Fitch at UFC 111, all of this in less than 24 hours. Jake Ellenberger will be paid his show and win money so that’s a good call on UFC’s part.

This further shows the power of the internet in breaking stories.  This new fight between Saunders and Fitch could shake things up if Saunders was to beat Fitch.

I would like to wish Thiago Alves a swift recovery for whatever it is that is wrong with him.

A Fighter’s Heart

I just got done watching UFC Primetime: St-Pierre vs. Hardy Part 2. To say I love this series is an understatement. This is a great way to help show the more common MMA fan who Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy is and help build him as a possible threat to GSP’s crown. I still only give Hardy a 25% chance in the fight but I learned something about him that makes me even more intrigued with Dan Hardy.

THE LOSERS

James Irvin: First thing Irvin needs to do is move back up to 205. He did not look good at the weigh ins and during the short time there was a fight going on, his ring rust was also apparent.  He could fight Eric Schafer at Ligh Heavyweight, as both would be coming off of losses.  Schafer’s BJJ could either prove to be a blessing or a curse for Irvin. If he can control where the fight takes place he could use his striking to take apart Schafer. He needs to spend sometime putting back all that muscle mass he seems to have lost though.

THE WINNERS part 1 of 2

Alesso Sakara : He blazed through a slow and just bad looking James Irvin. With this win he is now 3-1 in the UFC. This isn’t a bad record to have and if he wins another fight should get a good step up in competition.  Three names have come to mind in who he could face next. C.B. Dollaway, Goran Reljic, and Tom Lawlor.
